Question:

So I read something interesting the other day. It was an article about if jobs will be required to make their employees get the COVID vaccine for them to work for their company. I don’t know how I feel about this, to be honest. I don’t even get the flu shot. I worked in the medical field for years and most doctors and nurses don’t even get the flu shot. But to require a person to get a vaccine to work for their company is a little too much. I don’t see how this will be okay. First of all, when this vaccine comes out you don’t know how it will affect someone. You don’t know if there could be any type of reaction to it. It’s not like I’m getting the chickenpox vaccine, something that has been out for a while. This vaccine is new and just because you have done the trials doesn’t mean everyone will react the same way. So your thoughts. Do you think businesses should make their employees get this vaccination as a condition of working at this company?

  1. I am not ok with companies enforcing vaccines for people to keep their jobs. I agree with the fact that everyone reacts differently with strange stuff entering their body system. The worst part is when the reaction takes awhile in people and others decide to follow then negative sings start we would have a whole lot of people to treat.
We have to be very careful in these times.
    Thanks for sharing your concern

  2. No one should be forced to have what they don’t want just because they need a job. Like everything else, having a vaccine should be a personal choice I believe.

  3. What can or can’t be enforced will depend on local laws, but in terms of rightness or wrongness, I think it depends on the setting and the risk of COVID transmission. In long-term care settings, allowing workers who choose not to get vaccinated to continue to work in that super high-risk setting would be irresponsible. The risk of getting vaccinated is unclear, but the risk of not getting vaccinated and getting COVID is known, and it can be very high.

  4. I work in healthcare but not in direct patient care and I’m very concerned about this. Currently, they require us to get a flu shot unless we have a legitimate medical or religious reason. However, like you said, this COVID-19 vaccine is not well tested. Especially on people of color. I have no plan to take it anytime soon.
I’m striving to be cautious as a serpent, innocent as a dove (Matthew 10:16), shrewd and discerning (Proverbs 22:3).
