Slump:

So last week I hardly read or worked on my book. I have been feeling like I’m in a slump when it comes to my book. I know that I can’t make things happen but sometimes I just don’t feel motivated about writing. I love to read and it seems like I have been in a slump with that as well. I hope that this week I can get out of this slump and get back to what I love to do. If you have ever been in a slump what do you do to get out of it?

  1. Maybe it’s a sign you need to take a break? Don’t beat yourself up. Go do something completely unrelated. Have some fun with friends. Go for a walk. Rest. Relax. Meditate. Then come back to it. If I have the feeling I ‘have’ to do something then I realise what I have to do is actually take a step back and gain some perspective instead. I don’t think theses things should feel forced. Hope this helps. Wishing you well, AP2 🙏

  2. Hope and pray it all goes better for you this week. Sorry to hear that, it is hard and not easy at all. What I would do is self talk. Tell me what I will tell a friend. I will be kind to me and appreciate that life is hard and not to be hard on me and it is not the end but a stepping stone.

  3. I too get into slumps sometimes, but why method of working through them involves setting a very low bar for myself (250 words a day). On my normal days, I surpass that bar, but on my bad days, I’m happy with just the 250, because at least I’m not staying still. That way, I can ‘relax’ even when I’m not. Wishing you the best with your slump!

  4. We’ve all been there!

Figure out if it’s you or the story. If it’s you, take a break or try writing something different – haikus, short stories or even flash fiction. Or, it’s the story. Write a new outline or add/subtract characters to punch up the plot.

I’ve also found playing music that matches the mood I’m trying to create in my wips also helps.

    Good luck! 🙂
