I’m what you may call a procrastinator. For some reason, I make goals about my book and I have yet to even reach any of my goals. But not anymore. I’m done not doing what I need to do to finish this book. So I have made another goal. I will need to have my rough draft done by this year and have someone lined up to read it for me so that I can make the necessary changes. I have started so many books and have yet to finish them. What am I afraid of? Failure and no one buying my books, to be honest. But how do I know any of this if I never try? How can I speak these things when I have yet to finish one book? There are so many great writers out there who are known and unknown. I want to be in that world. I want to help others and I want them to enjoy the stories that I tell. Welp, it’s time to get to work. Because by 2021 I want to have a published book. One book at a time is my focus. Has any other writer had this problem before? Any suggestions?
Hello! It took me yearssss to actually publish a book. I carried the dream for years without completing it. Now, I understand why I couldn’t publish when I wanted to because it wasn’t quite time. God lined everything up for me to publish. I kept blogging and writing privately until it was time. So, I would say set goals. Then, crush them! Write for one or two hours a day. Set a word count goal and stick to it, no matter what. Don’t try to eat the entire “roll” at once….take small bites and don’t beat yourself up if you get off track or can’t finish the “whole meal” in one sitting….keep biting bit by bit!!!! Be realistic and enjoy the process!!💞

My 4th and 5th manuscripts are currently going through the editing process. My personal goal is to have them all published by the end of 2021. Yes. I’m having this same issue right now. This post gave me motivation and it was a good reminder to write more of my book actually, haha! I hope you well for the future and I can’t wait to see it published one day! (I have a goal of having a book published next year too) 😊

Congrats. Let’s do this. I can’t wait for your book to come out also. We can do this. One day at a time.

Ahhhh, so true! This is a great conversation. I have had an idea for a book for awhile now and all I have is some scribbled notes that portray a brief outline and road map for how the book should flow, but alas, your blog reminds me that I need to put pen to paper. It will happen, set small goals and begin by achieving them. Next thing you know you will be setting the final goal of getting it edited. 🙂

It’s totally normal to feel this way, and you’re not alone.
I just finished writing a short story collection I was working on for almost a decade two weeks ago. I was like you and said screw this. I set a deadline and got it done. I’m currently editing it with the hopes of self-publishing it by the end of September. It’s a bit ambitious, but I think I will hit it.
If I can offer a suggestion, it would be to set a non-negotiable deadline that you have to hit for certain milestones, like the first draft, etc. That way, you can schedule some procrastination time if things go awry on a specific day and to hold yourself accountable.
It’s something that works for me, and I hope it works for you. And if you need any help or to bounce ideas off of someone, shoot me an email or message. I’d love to help if I can. 🙂 Happy writing and good luck!

Congratulations. You can do it. I believe in you. I love your suggestion and I’m going to do that. I feel like the only thing I’m really stressing about is finding someone to edit/ proofread my book. I’ve had people who want to but this is my first book. I want someone who has experience. Thank you for all your help

I highly recommend reading “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield and what he has to say about resistance. Even if you just read the first chapter it would be highly enlightening. I think of it every time I make myself sit down and write.
