I started a 21 day fast on the 1st of January because I wanted to start my New Year of right. As I was going through my fast I started to really notice how people talk more than they listen. Have you ever had someone come to you and talk to you about something, but you only listened enough to give your opinion? I’ve done that plenty of times. But what we fail to do is listen to someone to truly hear what is not being said. I’m the person people will come to all the time to talk to because it stays between us and I genuinely care about what someone may be going through. But there are times when I overlook the unspoken words in someone’s conversation. I’ve learned that the unspoken words are just as important as the spoken words. It’s a reason why God gave us two ears and one mouth. We really do need to listen more. I’m learning to not be in a hurry to speak all the time, but take the time to really listen to what someone has to say. Also I’ve learned to not only talk to God about what’s going on in my life, but to also listen to him. Having quiet time in the morning has been truly amazing because that is my time with God. I’m learning to be silent and listen more than talk. I’m learning the art of listening more and talking less. This fast has truly opened my eyes to understanding people a lot better. Try listening more to people, then giving your opinion. You never know what you could be missing.
